Not a ski sweater. Not a summer polo. The layer you wear under a jacket at 8 a.m. and alone by lunch.

September knits fail in two directions. Too thin and you freeze on the platform. Too heavy and you peel it off in the Uber and never put it back on. The useful knit is midweight: merino, cashmere blend, or a tight cable that still fits under a waxed jacket.
I buy color last and hand feel first. If the photo looks fuzzy and the price is suddenly half, that is usually the signal. Loud logos and oversized boxy cuts can wait for someone else's feed. Charcoal, navy, and a quiet green do more work in a real closet.
Wear the same knit with denim on Saturday and under a sport coat on Tuesday. That is the whole point of this activity. Confirm the chest and sleeve on the merchant page; returns on knits are a tax you pay in shipping both ways.
